Sorry to get serious for a moment guys.

I know the usa has enough problems at the moment, but please take some time to reflect your thoughts on what happened on this tragic day.
On September 11th 2001 Islamic extremists hijacked four passenger jets
Flights 11,77,175,93 were all hi jacked by islamic extremists with the intention to crash them into some of americas most important buildings and cuase as many deaths as possible. The last flight (93) crashed in Pennsylvania after heroic passengers overpowered the terrorists. On that awful day thousansds of innocent people like me and you just going about that ordindary day, working etc were murdered. They were not politicians or army (pentagon being the exception of course) people just normal hard working people.

It still feels like it was just yesterday to me...I was a Senior in Highschool and they turned the TV we had in the classroom on and all of us were in shock. I left class 5 minutes later because at the time my Dad worked in NYC and I had no idea if he was ok because ALL of the cellphone towers were completely jammed...luckily for my family he turned out to be ok but unluckily for many other families and the country over 3,000 innocent civilians/Firefighters/Police Officers died tragically...

It's inspiring how New York came together after the tragedy, and I look forward to the day the new Tower is completed...I'll be one of the first ones there to visit and pay my respects.

I remember that day like it was yesterday as well. I was sitting at home and we turned on the TV and BAM there it was, on every channel! I was in complete shock, didn't believe why anyone would do such a thing...

I was in Belgium, we had just gotten home from school (my brother and I) and my mom was in tears, all the TVs in the house were on and we were watching clips/replays of the first plane hitting and all the crazyness in NYC when the second plane hit. Up until the second plane hit I thought that it was either a very bad accident or a very, very BAD joke/prank/movie. I pretty much vowed to join the Army after college and I still plan on doing so.

I still can't believe how someone could do something like that to innocent people (it would have been different if it had happened to US troops, still would have been a tragidy but different you know?)

Believe it or not, I was in an airplane when the first plane hit the WTC. I was flying to Indianapolis, which is where most of the planes in the midwest were routed to when they stopped sending flights to major cities.

As the plane was taxi-ing to the gate, I turned on my cell phone and there was a frantic message from my wife wanting me to call her. None of us on the plane knew what was happening. Was crazy. I was waiting in the jetway for my luggage (still not knowing because I hadn't called my wife yet) and one of the gate agents came running down telling everyone to get their bags ASAP and get inside, terrorists were hijacking planes and crashing them into buildings, and the FAA grounded all flights until further notice. It was completely surreal.

To be fair, zeus...

Most of the truly innocent Iraqis are being killed by the insurgents who are specifically targeting them as part of the ongoing terrorism. Yes, innocents have been killed by US troops, but those are far less than the deaths caused by the insurgency. The people that I know and talk to about this definitely feel for what the Iraqis must deal with.

this thread wasn't the 'end-all' of show some respect threads, we weren't NOT showing respect for others being killed, we were just specifically commenting on this particular occasion. captain_scarlet created the thread on 9-11 of this year, it wasn't just randomly started.

...there are many Americans being killed in Iraq too.

zeus - I also find it interesting that you've been a member for about 2 months and this is your first post here. If you are looking for political debates, I can recommend a few other sites that would better suit your needs.

My story goes like this... I had woken up early so that I could go down to the local clinic to have my physical done for the Volunteer Fire Department. After having the physical done I went and picked up 4 guys and we went and gave blood. After that I sat at home and watched the news as I went through my cell phone and called everyone I knew just to hear their voice and to know they were ok. I missed the JFK assassination, and don't remember the Challenger disaster, but this, the attacks on Sept 11th will never escape my mind.
